Hartford mayor vetoes ordinance on gay rights
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Mayor George Athanson has vetoed a homosexual rights ordinance that would have prevented the city or anyone holding city contracts from discriminating against employes because of sexual orientation.
The ordinance, which was adopted by the city council Monday, would have been the first law in Connecticut protecting rights of homosexuals.
Athanson said he felt any law should be broad enough to guarantee equal job treatment for all city employes, not just homosexuals.
